Migrating 400+ Articles from JAMstack to WordPress Gutenberg Without Losing SEO

The Migration Challenge

When moving an enterprise publication with 400+ technical articles from a static site generator (Hugo / Gatsby) back to WordPress, manual copy-pasting is out of the question. More critically, any broken permalinks or lost meta descriptions can destroy years of organic search authority.

Automated Transformation Pipeline

We developed a Node.js and WP REST API pipeline that processed raw Markdown files and frontmatter YAML dictionaries:

  • Mapped frontmatter metadata directly to Yoast SEO and Rank Math custom fields.
  • Transformed markdown code blocks and callouts into native Gutenberg blocks (core/code, core/group).
  • Downloaded remote assets, verified dimensions, and attached them to the WordPress Media Library with preserved alt tags.

SEO Redirection Validation

Every imported article was cross-referenced against server access logs. Automated crawler scripts confirmed 100% of legacy URLs either resolved cleanly or returned verified HTTP 301 permanent redirects.
